Lanes Custom Medal Mounting Bendigo, Victoria

Whether you're a serving member getting your first medal mounted, or a family member honouring a loved one's military service — I mount medals properly, in Bendigo, by appointment.

What We Offer

I can work with your original medals or supply a full set of high quality replicas in full size or miniatures — Court Mounted or Swing Mounted, to your requirements.

We can provide high quality medal sets either Court Mounted or Swing Mounted in full size and miniatures or Ribbon Bars

My recommendation: get replicas mounted. If you lose your original medals, replacing them is extremely difficult — in many cases impossible. Having a quality replica set mounted means the originals can be kept safe, and you still have something you can wear with pride.

Who I Do This Work For

Two kinds of people usually come to me for medal mounting.

The first is current or former serving members — getting their first medal mounted, adding clasps, or having a full set properly presented.

The second is family members. Sometimes it's to honour a parent or grandparent who has passed. One job I'm particularly proud of is a set of replica medals I mounted for a young girl whose father had passed away, and another relative had claimed his originals. Being able to give her a quality replica set — something she could hold onto and connect with her father's service — was one of the more meaningful jobs I've done.

If you're in that situation, bring the details of the service history and I'll take care of the rest.

Court Mounting vs Swing Mounting

Court Mounting is the current Australian military standard. Medals are stitched firmly onto a hard backing board — typically perspex — so they sit flat and don't move.

It actually dates back to the reign of Queen Victoria, who didn't like the noise made when her courtiers' medals clinked together as they walked. She had them mounted firmly — and the standard has stuck ever since.

Swing Mounting attaches medals to a bar so they hang and swing freely. It's a more traditional style and remains a popular choice, particularly for formal portraits and display.

Both are done to the highest standard, using quality materials throughout.

FAQs

Do you mount original medals or replicas? Both. I can mount your original medals, or supply and mount a full replica set in full size or miniatures. I generally recommend replicas — originals can be lost or damaged, and replacing them is very difficult.

What's the difference between Court Mounted and Swing Mounted? Court Mounted medals are stitched to a firm backing board (usually perspex) so they sit flat — it's the current military standard. Swing Mounted medals hang from a bar and move freely. I can do both.

Do your Court Mounted sets comply with military regulations? Yes. Court Mounted sets are mounted on a perspex backing board in compliance with military regulations.

Do you handle the correct order medals should be mounted in? Yes — and it's worth making sure this is done properly. Medals must be mounted in the correct sequence as per military guidelines, and it can be quite confusing if you're not familiar with the protocol. I take care of that as part of the job, so you don't have to work it out yourself.
